Facebook – Are you still an addict?
I thought I would write about Facebook as one of things I get asked the most is ‘Are you on Facebook?’. I think everyone reading this blog is going to know what Facebook is but for those who don’t it’s a Social Networking site. You can find old friends, see their photos and their wall (where people write each other public messages) etc.
I joined a long time ago, way before it become more popular than its rival, MySpace. Back then it was very simple, uncluttered and quite interesting to use not to mention quite addictive when it came to help passing the time at work!
Since then I personally think its gone downhill. Ok, I have managed to get back in touch with more old friends but the amount of application invites I not get is stupid. When you install one of the applications it asks you if you would like to invite your friends to add it too. By default the boxes are checked and most people don’t bother unchecking them before installing it therefore an invite gets sent to their hundreds of friends!
Also, people keep trying to add me when I don’t even know them or they are a friend of a friend of a friend. I don’t care, I already have enough friends on there and the last thing I want is yet more Zombie, Movie Quiz requests!
Another annoyance is when looking at some friends profiles, they have so many applications on there that the page takes ages to load (even on fast broadband). Not to mention it hanging and freezing up Firefox.
In the last 6 months I have started using it less and less and will only go on there now if I get an email from Facebook saying someone has sent me a message of if someone I like has added me as friend. I know people who have deleted their accounts on there as they were so fed up of all the stupid requests.
Although I keep moaning about all the Applications there are a couple of good ones. My personal favourites are:
Jetman – Possibly the most addictive game in the world!
Scrabulous – Yet another great game which is multiplayer (this has killed many hours at work)!
So a brief summary, its a great concept, can be addictive but has now become very annoying. Facebook – sort it out!
