First Bungy Jump!

I did it, I jumped off the Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown! For those of you who don’t know much about Bungy Jumping, the Kawarau Bridge was the worlds first commercial jump site. I was holding off writing on here as I am waiting for the photos but they are going to take a few days to come online so I thought I would let you know I am still alive.

The jump was simply amazing. The guy who strapped me up asked if I wanted to be dunked into the river below and I obviously said yes. He said just my head might go in but I was dunked waist deep (head first) and got soaked. It was the scariest thing I have ever done in my life and in the pictures and DVD (yes there is a DVD of my jump!) I look a little nervous. The hardest part is just jumping from the platform but when he gave me the count down I just went. If you want to read more about the Kawarau Bridge Bungy Jump, click here.

I must be mad because I am doing another jump tomorrow! It is called the ‘Nevis Highwire Bungy’ and is the highest jump in Australasia and is 134 metres (440 feet). It has a 8.5 second freefall and is supposedly the scariest jump in New Zealand. I am actually quite nervous about this one but I am just going to throw myself off and enjoy it. Just getting to the jump site is a mission because its in the middle of nowhere and is suspended over a canyon on a highwire (see picture below):

What else have I been doing? Partying, eating, luging and playing minigolf. I have also had 3 of the world famous ‘Fergburgers’. I am eating very well over here and am always the heaviest (80Kg – 12.5 stone) when it comes to being weighed for things (Bungy Jumps, Skydives etc).

Tonight is also my last night at the Base hostel and I am so glad. I haven’t been sleeping too well because some people in our dorm are just idiots who make too much noise in the middle of the night. I am booked into the YHA hostel tomorrow night with my own room which will be nice. The day after (Tuesday) I am catching the ‘Bottom Bus’ and going to Dunedin and then about 4 days later I shall be returning to Queenstown for another week.

Anyway, I must dash but I shall report back after my jump tomorrow afternoon.

P.S. Bungy Jump photos will be on here soon but I am waiting on the company to put them online for me.
